The honest cabbie

Published by blogsmith at 12:32 pm under Bangkok Edit This

Going home from church, we always take a cab even if the church is just a stone’s-throw away. Well, being all dressed up and wearing high heels is definitely not an ideal thing to walk under a scorching sun, is it? On one of these ocassions, all three of us girls were all squeezed at the back and my cousin Den sat beside the driver.

When we arrived in the apartment, he checked his mobile phone but alas his pocket was empty. We went back to the elevator but there was no cellphone. Then Nokie, now his brother-in-law, rang the phone and fortunately the driver picked it up. He talked to the driver and asked him to retrace his course with the meter on as if he had a passenger. The taxi had gone several kilometers away but the driver willingly and kindly returned with the cellphone. Den paid him the meter plus 200 baht more as a thank-you gesture.

Luckily Den was sitting in front if not the cabbie wouldn’t have noticed the phone if it was at the back seat when it vibrated especially that it was on silent mode.
