The nasty bus driver

Published by blogsmith under Bangkok Edit This

Every Friday afternoon Karoline, Jane and I couldn’t wait for the class to finish so we could jump on the next bus to go back to Bangkok. Well, it’s not that we didn’t like Muaklek. It’s just that it was very far from the town center and there was nothing we could do except to stay in our room all weekend. We needed a car to go buy something but even if the school had got a van we three couldn’t drive and the school driver didn’t work on weekends.

So off we go to Bangkok every Friday afternoon or if we decided to stay until Saturday morning we still get to leave after lunch.

During one of our Friday trips, we were waiting at the bus station and the first one that comes bound for Bangkok we would scamper to get on. So excited we were that we didn’t even realize passengers were alighting for coffee or snack. Jane and I were very new to the place and we didn’t understand what he was saying. We didn’t care anyway, we just wanted to get on the bus. But Karoline who had been in Thailand for a couple of years could now comprehend Thai fairly and she just went back to the waiting area and her countenance showed unhappy. We asked what the matter was and she said that the driver was actually angry and saying nasty things at us because we apparently were blocking the way for alighting passengers.

After a couple of minutes the bus started to leave but Karoline refused to board it. Jane and I were getting impatient to get on but we couldn’t leave Karoline behind and we didn’t know our way in Bangkok from the Bus station. It was a little bit of situation and the dispatcher told the driver that we were actually foreigners and didn’t understand him. But he started to be raging mad. And Jane and I became apprehensive. Several minutes later, the bus left while we waited for the next. This time we became smarter. We waited until passengers got off before we boarded.
